NILES, MI - Formitt Metal Labs, a division of Hess Industries, Inc., showcased custom spinformed hollow tube shapes and assembly applications at AHR EXPO.
One featured application highlights a manufacturer of aftermarket vehicle muffler shells. The old process stamped and welded end-cones to the muffler tube, ground down the weld and then polished the part. Formitt's technicians developed a new manufacturing process that eliminated the dies, stamped parts and welded end-cones. The spinforming process improved the part quality by eliminating the welded joint and grinding operation, which enhanced the part quality and provided a smooth finish ready for polishing.
Formitt hollow tube fabricated assemblies may include the insertion of filtration elements, heat exchange components, catalytic elements, etc. The company's hollow tube spinforming prototyping and production technologies are currently used in the automotive, HVAC, filtration, and marine industries, in addition to others.
