NILES, MI - Hess Industries, Inc. announces the introduction of their New Mid-Frequency DC (MFDC) butt welding system that reduces welding energy consumption up to 50% over current AC & DC wheel hoop butt welding technology. The system is designed, built and serviced by Hess Industries and replaces older control systems.

Mid-frequency welding has been available since 1984, but the development of new semiconductor technology allows higher currents to be used for heavy-duty applications such as wheel and rim production. With this technology comes a quantum leap in energy savings-a Hess PowerMizer Solution.

Existing AC (cam operated or hydraulic) and DC (flash or flashless) butt welding systems can be upgraded and according to Mike Walker, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, "customers that choose to replace existing AC or DC welding systems with the new MFDC technology can realize energy cost savings of up to 50%".

Other benefits include, reduced operating costs, reduced footprint on the shop floor, and lower maintenance costs. All Hess MFDC system components are industry standard and interchangeable, making the system easy to maintain and service.

Mid-frequency DC butt welding is widely used to join the ends of coiled bands that are subsequently rollformed into rims for automotive, truck, and off road vehicle wheels.

Hess Industries, Inc. is a global engineering firm and manufacturer of metalforming machines, cells, systems and factory automation solutions with 30 years of experience.
